Artist Information

A contemporary artist. Born in 1965 in Fukuoka. After graduating from Osaka University of Arts photography department in 1988, Matsukage started his outstanding career including his appearance at Venice Biennale’s Aperto section as a youngest artist ever shown with his art unit “Compresso.” Since then he has shown in his solo and group exhibitions internationally dealing with various media such as photography, performance and graphic design. In 2006 he represented Japan at the Singapore Biennale. He is the representative of “The group 1965,” and a member of a duo called “Gorgelous” with Ujino Muneteru.

Artist Information

Currently living in Miyako, Iwate Prefecture.
With unique interpretations such as Bonsai appearing like Chimaera or using empty Bonsai pots to embody the flora
and fauna ‘after the Bonsai has left’ , Masuko elaborates new ideas which expands the image of Bonsai.
Her works have already attracted enormous attention in the Japanese art scene.
